Synopsis

Dr. Leila Reynolds is working her shift at Southside Medical Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she meets a mysterious man, Lance Steel. Although Leila is a married woman, she is enticed by this bold Renaissance man. Lance seduces her, surprising her with the most erotic weekend of her life … with a vampire. She convinces herself that it was just an affair, but she can’t get Lance—or the time they shared—out of her mind.

As owner of the Caprice Casino and the exclusive Club Moroii, Lance has more money and heartbreaking good looks than any one man deserves. He soon introduces her to an underground world that she never knew existed, fraught with sex, booze, blood … and danger.

When Leila’s life crumbles around her, Lance is there to pick up the pieces … but her connection with him has a price. Can Leila leave the past behind and become eternally his, allowing her heart—as well as her body—to be touched by a vampire?

excerpt

I picked up my fork and cut a piece of my steak. I was suddenly so hungry that I could have just picked it up and eaten it with my bare hands if Lance hadn’t been there. I laughed at the thought.

Lance didn’t touch his steak, but leaned back and gave me a sly grin. “How do you like to be fucked?”

My mouth fell open and I almost choked on my steak, shocked by his question as I leaned back a bit. “Excuse me?”

“Oh, please forgive me.” He leaned in a bit closer and my heart stopped, then he looked at me through his eyelashes and said in a low voice, “Perhaps you didn’t hear me correctly. How, my dear, do you like to be fucked?”

I took a breath, not sure if I should be having this conversation with this handsome stranger.

Then, his green eyes flared, expecting an answer.

“Well, I like to be taken by surprise, but my husband …”

“I didn’t ask you about him,” he interrupted, taking my hand. “Do you like it hard and fast, or nice and slow.”

“Okay, I think this conversation has gone on long enough …” I said. I was a married woman, after all, but there hadn’t been any spontaneity in our relationship for years. We hardly made love and it was never hot and nasty anymore. We made love occasionally, but never fucked. I started to get hot and wet between my thighs just having this conversation, let alone do anything with this man. I pushed my chair back to leave, but part of me wanted to stay.

“Don’t leave yet,” he begged in a firm voice, taking my hand. It was so different from when Mr. O’Malley had taken my hand in the examining room … or my husband, for that matter. “You haven’t finished your meal and I have more questions to ask.”

“Like what?” I asked, mesmerized by his emerald green eyes as I slid back into my seat and cut another piece of my steak.

“Like … you haven’t answered my question yet,” he responded, then added, matter of fact, “Please, forgive my directness. I don’t get out much.”

“Do you ask this of all the ladies?” I asked, anticipating his answer as my heart beat erratically within my chest. This was the hottest conversation I’d had in my life.

“No, only the ones that I want to bed,” he answered directly, taking a sip of his coffee as if this was the most normal conversation in the world.

“Oh, I see,” I said for lack of anything better to say. “And is that a lot?”

“Of fucks?” he asked directly.

“Of ladies,” I amended, “and fucks, too.” Heat rose within my body, hot over this conversation.

“Not as many as you may think, considering. It’s been a while. Usually, I just take them out for dinner,” he said with a sly smile. Then, he leaned in to whisper, looking directly into my blue eyes. “But I want to fuck you, my dear.”

“Not just take me out for dinner?” I asked for lack of anything better to say, trying unsuccessfully to hide my shock.

“No.” He thought for a moment, then asked, “What time do you get off work?”

“Anytime,” I replied. My heart raced, not sure why I had just told him that. Something hidden inside me was taking over. “My shift ended hours ago.”

“Well …” he said, tracing lazy circles on the top of my hand. “Why don’t you finish up and I’ll meet you outside. Then, we can discuss things further.”

I wasn’t sure what to say. He had taken me completely by surprise. I had never cheated on my husband before, nor had I ever felt the urge to, but this man made it sound so casual, so natural. “Well, it was nice to meet you, Mr. Steel …”

“Lance,” he replied with a smile. “The name’s Lance Steel.”

“Yes … well …” I stammered, coming back to my senses. I rose to my feet and he did the same, never breaking eye contact. “Thank you for dinner, but I have to get back to work.”

He walked around me, examining me as he inhaled the scent of my hair, then leaned in close to my ear, letting his teeth graze my earlobe. “I’ll be waiting …”

“I’m not so sure about that …”

“What’s the matter?” he asked in a low whisper. “Don’t you want to be made love to?” His fingertips brushed down my neck, onto my shoulders. Then, his hand trailed down my arm and slid across my waist. I gasped as he pulled my back abruptly onto his chest. “By the way … you never answered my question.”

“Hard,” I blurted out, knowing exactly the question to which he was referring. Then, I looked directly into his eyes. “I like to be fucked hard and long.”

“Have you been fucked like that before?” He grinned, kissing my neck gently.

I closed my eyes, savoring the moment, “Not in a while.”

Then, he whispered into my ear, “I’ll be waiting.”

I took a deep breath, waiting for him to say more, but when I opened my eyes, he was gone.

excerpt

I’m keeping you…

Leia wasn’t sure whether to be shocked or pleased at the outcome of acting out on that crazy instinct. The shock of finally having Noah King’s mouth on hers had been beyond explosive.

So she’d bitten him.

She’d bitten him!

She stared at the red spot on his finger and watched, mesmerized as he brought it to his mouth and licked it off.

“God, I’m so sorry. I’m not sure what came over—”

He stopped her words with a forefinger on her mouth. “This time, I’ll take care of it. Next time you lick it off.”

She gasped at the vivid imagery and his finger moved to the side of her mouth. Tracing. Exploring. “I… There won’t be a next time.”

“Yes, there will,” he drawled. His tongue snuck out and soothed the tiny cut on his lower lip. Savored it.

The intensely sensual action spiked fire between her legs. Her panties grew damper, her clit throbbing incessantly against the seam of her leather pants. She moved in the seat, desperate to alleviate the discomfort.

His gaze dropped between her legs and darted back to her face. “You’ll bite me whenever I tell you to. And I’ll bite you right there, between your legs.”

“I’m not a biter,” she said in a rush.

“You’ve just proved otherwise. You’ve made me so hard I can’t see straight.”

Another blush threatened but she forced it away through sheer strength of will. She was done blushing in front of this man. Her stupid blushes had nearly made him walk away. The recollection hollowed out her stomach, the way it had ten minutes ago when she feared he would.

His finger traced her lower lip and brought her attention back to him. He watched her with such intensity, his gaze compelling her as his finger slipped into her mouth. The soft pad caressed her lower front teeth as if testing their sharpness. He reached her left incisor and pressed down.

Leia squirmed. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing you’re not enjoying.”

She shook her head but the feeling of his finger lazily exploring her mouth was like nothing she’d felt before.

“You want me to stop?”

She moaned.

“Words, baby. Use words.” He pressed again and she saw his pupils dilate. “Tell me what you’re thinking. Do you like what I’m doing?”

Such a simple thing, nowhere near indecent or decadent. And yet it felt so erotic, her sex clenched and unclenched with sharp, hungry need.

“Yes.”

He smiled and removed his finger but not before he circled her lips with its wet tip. “The first rule is vocalization. Whatever you’re feeling, you say it. I don’t want to have to guess what’s going on in your head. Agreed?”

With the help from a man she barely knows, will Courtney find her way out? Or will she find herself on the run from a dangerous past, and a hopeless future? Faced with a choice that will change her life forever.

review

This is a heart wrenching, reasonably true to life and utterly mind blowing story. Courtneys life is diabolical and to survive she has to run away but oh my goodness if it isn’t out of the frying pan and into the fire for the poor girl.

One thing that really got me about this book was the fact that you really sense Courtneys innocence and utter despair at her life and how it has shaped up.  I feel for her totally and sense that this story is sadly,  whether totally or just in part, a reality for some kids out there.

This book deals with abuse and also the aftermath and real reality for those young girls especially who run away to get away so to speak.

I also loved the guessing as to who may or may not be the love interest in this book and also it was more of a tale of her life rather than a soppy romance.  The love theme is truly incidental to the main issues that we are reading about.  I will say n more as  you have to read this book for yourself to find out how happy an ending Courtney actually gets and with whom!

I wouldn’t say this was a book I enjoyed (the subject matter is truly horrific)  but it brought out so many different feelings and emotions in me as I was reading it and I seriously couldn’t put it down!

I do hope the there is a sequel to this book because although the ending left me with hope and a bit of closure it just can’t end there!!!!!

*****Five stars from me!*****

 EXCERPT

Amanda enters into the room, quickly closing the door behind her. “Oh, hey. Didn’t expect anyone to be in here yet.”
She goes to her bed and hops up. “What did you do today? Anything fun after the drop?”…Courtney trembles.
“Yo, babe! What’s up?” She says sarcastically, with a New Yorkers accent.
“A police officer…”
Amanda stops her. “No, a donut muncher.”
Courtney swallows. “A donut muncher chased me and Kara earlier. I don’t know if Kara made it.”
“Awe, shit. That’s tuff luck.” Amanda holds the bottom of her boot with one hand as she tries pulling it off.
“What if they caught her?”
“There’s a lot of what ifs. She’s a big girl. I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Amanda tosses her boot to the corner of the room. She slides off her socks, letting her feet air out as she wiggles her toes.
“You aren’t worried?” Courtney is confused. She felt all the girls thought better of one another.
“No. She put on her big girl panties this morning. Why would I be concerned?”
Courtney lays back onto the bed hearing the door squeak open. Seeing Kylee she flies over to her. “Go downstairs with me?”
“Sure.” She looks at Amanda and she shrugs, pulling the left side of her face down, shaking her head.
As the two girls reach the door Dane puts his hand up. “You two are staying in for the night.”
“Dane this will only take a minute. We are only going right out front.” Kylee eyes him.
He motions no with his head, returning his arms crossed to his chest.
“Look!” Courtney speaks louder. “You will see us, dammit.”
Dane squints his eyes, definitely not happy with Courtney as his nostrils widely open. “You have five minutes.”
“The pigs followed us earlier today. Kara and I split up and she still hasn’t made it back today.”
Kylee’s eyes grow wide. “Oh, that could be a problem.”
“If she didn’t beat me back, do you think they got her?”
“If they did she is toast.”
Courtney lowers her head. “That’s what I was afraid of.”….

Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: June 14, 2014

Synopsis

For twenty-something Boston school teacher Ruth, she’s gotten by just fine on playing it safe, thank you very much. But now her risk-free life and nice-girl demeanor are leaving her increasingly heartsick. So when she meets bad boy Derek, she’s willing to overlook her “no romance” rule and give him a chance to prove her fears wrong. Because he, also, is plagued by a sense of ennui and pointlessness, wanting to change his fast-and-loose living but not knowing how.

Neither can deny the inexplicable, illogical attraction drawing them together, and they are hard-pressed to resist it. But what will their unlikely relationship cost, and who will be caught in the crossfire?

The Light Between Us is a sassy and sensual romp. Part love story, part comedy of errors, part and coming of age tale, The Light Between Us is a delicious read for fans of the romance and new adult genres alike.

“The Light Between Us is a raw and powerful love story about forgiveness and learning to trust our instincts. Sexy and intense, I couldn’t put this novel down and wished, at the last chapter, for more.” – H. Mattern, author of Saving Katie Baker

excerpt

Derek placed his hand over hers where it rested on the table. She stared at the sight of his hand on hers. Was this really happening? The hottest guy in the bar – no, the hottest guy in ever – was interested in her? Was touching her? She wasn’t sure if she should be flattered or suspicious.

To hell with should, she told herself firmly.

Then he looked Ruth squarely in the eye and – her mouth fell open – drawing her hand to his mouth, placed a warm kiss on its back.

She froze. She was probably meant to find the gesture alluring, she knew, but all she could think of was how her father used to kiss her mother’s hand in just the same way when he wanted her to shut up, to quit nagging him or wanting him to take her out or put his dirty socks in the damn hamper already. And her mother would always, always fall silent, her voice somehow smothered by an act that should have been one of love, and instead had become one of dominance, of distance.

Ruth felt her face twist in revulsion. She refused to be the silent – no, silenced – partner in any relationship, no matter how superficial.

“I’m sorry.” She sprang to her feet, sure that her whole face shone crimson but not much caring. “I have to go. My friends – they – sorry . . .” Ruth wheeled away, not caring to finish making her thin excuses.

When her friends noticed her approach, their faces lit, then quickly fell when they noticed her expression.

“Ruth, are you okay?” Padme asked, sitting bolt upright.

“You look like you’re going to puke,” said Maddie. “What the hell happened? Do you need me to go kick that sleazebag in the nuts for you?”

Ruth shook her head. “No, nothing happened.” He’s just probably a slime ball. Like every other guy in ever, she added mentally. She grabbed her coat and her purse.

“But . . . at least let us walk you to the T,” Cecelia said, moving to follow her.

She drew a deep breath, feeling a pressing need to get out of the bar’s stuffy clamor, alone. “No, I’m fine. Really, you should stay. I’ll get a cab.” She paused. “I just need some fresh air and then my bed.”

“Well, if you’re sure,” Padme said, face twisted with concern. “Text me when you get home, so I know you’re safe?”

Ruth nodded and ducked through the crowd, keeping her eyes away from the table where Derek still sat. Probably thinking I’m the biggest ass of all time, she thought, rolling her eyes. But as she shoved out the door into the pleasantly cool autumn night, she couldn’t help but throw one more glance his way. She started – he was staring right back with a hurt expression on his face.

She’d hurt him? Could she really possess this power? She couldn’t fathom it.

Ruth shook off the shock and kept moving. Outside, she stood on the sidewalk, breathing deep, feeling her lungs expand more fully out in the fresh air, gulping the crisp scent of fall down to her depths.

What the hell was wrong with her? Could she have misread his gesture? A perfectly fine – no, a perfectly fine – man had showed an interest in her, and she’d gone running for the hills at the tiniest trigger?

It didn’t matter. Even if the kiss had not been what she thought it was, he was probably still another disappointment in the relationship department. Aside from her novel characters, she’d had yet to meet a man who was anything else. Ruth shook her head at herself, sure that she should have known better, and stepped forward to flag down a cab.

BLOG TOUR and 5* REVIEW Before You by Amber Hart

About BEFORE YOU

Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don’t care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn’t stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.

 review

Prepare yourself before you read this!! My heart has been broken repaired and broken again after reading this!

We follow the lives of Faith and Diego in this twisting tale of love and prejudice.  Faith is trying hard in all parts of her life to maintain a good girl persona to help maintain the image of her father, the local preacher. It isn’t who she is and she is also hiding her true self from everyone.  Is she happy?

Diego then walks into her life as a transfer student from Cuba.  Faith can tell he has had a hard life and he is definitely hiding from someone or something.  But one thing is for sure the two of them have an instant attraction!

Something different for me in this book was the real life gritty representation of life that you see at times as well as the strong theme of racial prejudice that is more than hinted at through the story.  I loved the character development and although the two main characters are damaged in some way, neither are too over the top with their angst or overly annoying.

I love the dual perspective of the storytelling and the side characters (Particularly Javiar and Melissa who I cannot wait to read about in the next book!) are all well represented.  Faith and her father have an interesting relationship and I loved how that developed and how her father involved himself, especially towards the end of the book!  I won’t say any more!

I will honestly recommend you read this with a big man-sized pack of tissues and be prepared for the ending to rival most endings!  This is a pretty steady love story for the bulk of the book then BAM the ending hits you – well the final couple of chapters are the most heart wrenching things I’ve read in a while!

Roll on Javiar and Melissa’s story!

Five fab stars from me!

excerpt

He didn’t look up at me when he spoke. He was sopping up hollandaise sauce with a biscuit. “We should do this again, Ettie. Next weekend. How about it?”

My heart was suddenly thundering in my ears. I watched him as he pointedly focused on cleaning his plate. “Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?” I asked.

He finally looked up. Those blue eyes were hypnotic. And heartbreaking. “I’m asking you to have another fun weekend with me. That’s what I’m asking.”

My eyes fluttered as they started to sting. “Do you need to get to know me better before asking me to be your girlfriend?”

His jaw muscles tensed. “Ettie, I…”

“Look, Wyatt. I have had just the absolute best time of my life with you this weekend. I have all the information I need to know I want to be in a relationship with you.”

He snorted and leaned back in his chair. “You don’t know shit about me, Ettie. This was fun. But it was superficial and you know it.”

My chest constricted. I had to take a moment to swallow back the pain. “It wasn’t superficial. I’m sorry it didn’t mean as much to you as it did to me…”

“It meant plenty and that’s why I want to see you again. So let’s do it, Ettie. Next weekend. We’ll meet at the bar Friday and maybe we could road trip down to Gulf Shores or something. Or we could go zip-lining up at Cave City. All kinds of fun shit we could do together. That’s what I want.”

“I want to go home with you.”

He looked away and shook his head in frustration.

ReviewPink

This gets a four and a half stars from me but I want to say that I really loved this book and highly recommend reading it!

The concept behind this was great – a heart broken rich girl lands on the doorstep of the local bad boy with an attitude the size of the USA! Add to this a huge slice of mutual attraction (but with a dash of will they won’t they) and then topic off with a pretty high twist in the storyline and I think it makes for a really entertaining read.

Kallie has basically had enough and by chance she lands in a small town in the middle of nowhere with no means of escape apart from reaching out to the family and life she needs to take a break from.  Her car breaks down and her only hope for help is in the shape of Ryder the guy she believes she may have “slept” with after a night of too much drinking!  And there seems to be no way of escape.

Ryder is the pretty hot local womanising bad boy with a past of his own and this soon catches up with him as he becomes more involved with Kallie. He and his friend Logan have a secret that come barrelling out of the woodwork and will be the make or break of the pair!

The only slight disappointment for me was the ending! I really hope that there is more to come from this pair as the ending is almost a mild cliffhanger and I feel I’m left a bit unsatisfied in away! I would also love to hear a bit more about Ryder and his past too and maybe more about whether he resolves the issues with his Mum too. I think the story also calls for some “filling in the gap” at the end! Hint hint! (Oh and Logan and Scarlett could do with a story too!)

**** This gets a fab four stars from me! ****

The one story building was brick and had no windows. A neon open sign hung in the glass door. This must be a bar, but I had no other options and was not about to start driving aimlessly looking for a more family-friendly place to eat alone. I parked and entered the building.

The smell of smoke and beer met me. A long bar lined the wall with bottles of liquor filling the shelves behind it. Low hung lights with green shades gave the place little lighting. Several guys played pool in the back corner. Several other men stopped to look at me from the tables scattered around the room.

I took a deep breath and made my way to the bartender, who was watching me from the bar. The older man had graying hair and looked slightly overweight. I tried to ignore the fact that I looked like an alien in here, with my stark white dress, expensive purse, jewelry and high heels clicking on the weathered tile. I took the barstool directly in front of the bartender, feeling eyes watch me the whole way there.

“Lost?” he asked bluntly.

“And very hungry sir,” I said meekly and embarrassed.

He gave me a sad smile and handed me a sheet of laminated paper they called a menu. After quickly scanning through, I ordered a burger and fries. I anxiously played with the charms of my bracelet while waiting for my food to come. I could feel the eyes burning into my back, but the voices picked back up as I no longer was the center of attention.

I couldn’t tell if it was dark out yet from inside the dark and dingy bar. I almost laughed when I thought of my mother’s reaction if she knew where I was, instead of her well-planned party. I never went out to bars and partied like my classmates did. I stayed in, concentrated on my studies and watched as Chloe and the girls got ready to head out for nights of fun and drinking. I didn’t imagine this would be the kind of bar they would go to, though.

My food arrived and I slowly ate the burger to stall from having to start the drive home. Driving in the dark on the winding country roads was the last thing I wanted to do. After all, I know how dangerous that could be. Maybe Carter would be sitting on my patio with me right now if it had been daylight for his drive home. Maybe I wouldn’t be in this smokey bar alone.

I slid my card to the bartender when he took my empty plate. “Do you want to start a tab?” he asked me.

“For drinks?” I asked, like I have never been in a bar before. “Yes,” I answered quickly to cover my embarrassment. I could at least try to look like I know what I am doing and remotely blend in. I grabbed my ID from my purse and slid it across the bar.

“What can I get you then, sweetie?” He tucked my card under the register.

“Scotch. On the rocks,” rolled off my tongue before even thinking. I had no idea what I was thinking. I saw it in so many movies and commercials, it seemed like the right thing to say.

The bartender tried to hide his laugh and shook his head. Taking a bottle from the shelves behind him, he filled a glass and slid it in front of me. The smell burned my nose as I lifted it to my lips. He watched me curiously as I inhaled a deep breath. I took a long drink from the glass to keep up my rouse.

The liquid burned my throat like I swallowed flames. I instantly started coughing and shaking my head to clear the burn. I kept my eyes down on the ice cubes in my glass to avoid looking at the bartender. Surely, he must know how deep over my head I am by now.

“Hey, Hank,” came from a voice from next to me, drawing the worried man away from me.

“Ryder,” he said back to the voice while popping the top off a beer bottle and sliding it across the bar. I didn’t even hear him ask for one.

I rolled the glass around in my hands and kept my gaze down. I just wanted to crawl up in a hole and hide from here, this bar, and home and my family. But, I currently have no where to hide that’s not any of those places.

“You’re not from around here, are you?” I heard in a deep voice near my ear.

I looked up quickly to see the guy, named Ryder, sliding over to the stool next to me. His eyes traveled from my high heels, up my bare legs and the rest of my body before landing on my face. I wanted to cringe away from his look, but my body made no moves. I could almost feel his eyes moving up my skin.

Even with an empty and broken heart, my mind could not ignore that the face in front of mine was striking. Black hair spiked in every direction. His pointed jaw and high cheekbones brought all your attention to piercing, dark brown eyes. Some stubble on his chin made him look older, but his broad shoulders and wide chest showed a body of someone younger. He raised one eyebrow at me, reminding me he asked a question.

“Um…no. I’m not,” I stuttered, turning away from his handsome face. He was opposite of Carter in almost every way. I could see him still watching me from the corner of my eye, so I took another drink to break the tension. My body shuddered as the Scotch burned it’s way down.

“Hank, Mojito,” he called out, slamming his hand on the bar.

Hank slid a tall glass with mint leaves and a clear liquid inside. I turned to look at Ryder in shock as he slid the Scotch away from me and downed the rest.

“This is better. Trust me,” he said, sliding the glass closer to me.

In utter curiosity, I took a small sniff. The smell of citrus and mint was a delightful contrast to the previous drink.

“Thank you,” I said, bringing the drink to my lips. The drink burned when swallowed, but then was washed away with the freshness of mint, lime and bubbles.

“Ryder,” the stranger said, sticking out his hand. His eyes shined bright with amusement and something that looked almost daring, like he was challenging me.

“Kallie,” I answered, putting my hand in his. His large hand covered mine. It was rough and instantly warmed my whole body.I have an obsession with owls.
