SYNOPSIS

She’s suffered the very worst of
betrayals.
And now Sarah’s facing a divorce she never expected.

With Christmas round the corner, what better time to re-evaluate her life? As she reconsiders every choice she’s made, she starts to wonder if her life was so perfect after all.

This winter, lose yourself in Sarah’s world of unmade decisions, lost friends and old flames…

MY REVIEW

This gets a five star rating from me, despite the fact I found this a pretty depressing read at times! It was a different style and focus on a long journey of discovery for Sarah, who at the beginning of the book catches her husband being unfaithful to her with her very own sister.

This sets forth a journey of discovery and of learning foe Sarah of who she really is and what she really wants.  Complications on this journey are hurled at her throughout the book in the shape of untimely accidents, very unsupportive families and a stereotypical bitch of a Mum.  This makes Sarah question just about everything she knows and spurs her along to making an effort to visit people and places from her past.

You go though every emotion with her and sometimes she did annoy me but even though her actions are slightly irritating at times you can also sympathise with her decisions.  The supporting characters of this book are well rounded and all play a huge part in either her past, present or future and each have a reason for being with her.

I was tempted on more than one occasion to launch my kindle with frustration, especially in the scenes with her parents and also felt the utter despair she felt after certain events.  The visual representation of the turning point in her life (the flying blue shirt) was a great idea too because at key points you are forced to remember her plight as poignantly as she does.

Besides, if for nothing else, you need to read this for the reunion with an old flame! Holy crap this part of the book was steeped in sexual tension and lust and just as things seem to be going her way BAM yet another curveball is thrown her way.

The ending almost ripped my heart out and its not until the absolute final part of the book do you get a proper sense that Sarah has not only come to terms with her life but that she is finally knows what she wants!

I loved and hated and loved this book in equal measure but loved being able to follow this tale and the outcome wasn’t quite what expected! Lovely end to a tumultuous journey!

Highly recommend!

EXCERPT:

It could be worse.

I made the words my
mantra.  A daily chant, an
affirmation—and the best
part was that it was true.
It could, in fact, always be worse.
Pestilence.  Famine.

Disease.  Death.

Any of those were
much worse, obviously, than my own puny little grief.

There were so many
people who got divorced.  Many of them
had no idea
that their marriages were even in trouble until it was all
over, just like me.  I
wasn’t the only one, the only fool.  I couldn’t be.  Just like I couldn’t possibly be
the only one with the great misfortune to come home
unexpectedly and find her
spouse in bed with someone else.

It could be
worse.  Couldn’t it?

AUTHOR BIO:

Megan Crane is a New Jersey native who had great plans to star
on Broadway, preferably in Evita,
just like Patti LuPone. Sadly, her inability to wow audiences with her singing
voice required a back up plan. Accordingly, she graduated from Vassar College
and got her MA and PhD in literature from the University of York in England.
She wrote her doctoral dissertation on AIDS literature, mostly so she could
wallow in her obsession with the remarkable multi-media artist David
Wojnarowicz and her idol, the bitter and hilarious David Feinberg. After many
years in the rain and subject to the whim of seasons, she followed the sun to
Los Angeles, where she lives with a dog, a cat, two crazy kittens, and an
artist named Jeff. She is still plotting her Broadway debut.
