Movie over and wine gone I’m cuddled against Kaleb’s chest, but nerves take over. “Should I get the dessert?” I pop up before he can answer.

I’ve anticipated a heavy make-out session, but am suddenly chicken. Throughout the movie he rubbed my back, and his fingers flirted with the bare skin at my waist. I put my fingers on his lips. “You’re adorable. Okay, here it is. I’ve only been with one other guy and it didn’t end well. I don’t…” Damn it. “I wasn’t very good at it.”

“My last girlfriend didn’t think I was very good at it, either. We can be dorks together. Okay?” He leans down and kisses my neck lightly. I welcome the shiver it causes and thread my fingers through his hair.

He whispers and his hot breath teases me. “I’m in no hurry. We can take all the time you need.” He moves his lips to my mouth and kisses gently. He waits for me to take the lead.

I nibble on his lower lip and slide my tongue into his mouth. Meeting me, we gently caress each other until he pulls away and says, “Let’s do dessert.”

He slides a piece of dense chocolate cake onto the plate I set out. “I won’t eat more than a couple bites, so why don’t you keep the other for tomorrow?” It wasn’t a question though, because he closes the lid and puts it in the refrigerator.

I grab the plate along with two forks and lead the way to the couch. I sit with a leg tucked under me. He takes a fork and lowers himself onto the sofa. “I think you’ll like this.”

I put a bite into my mouth and hold it on my tongue. Espresso-infused chocolate flavor spreads in my mouth. “Ummmm.” I close my eyes and swallow the lump slowly. “Oh yeah, that’s good.”

He chuckles softly. “Now to get you to say that about me.”

With my next bite I tilt my head and remove the fork coyly. “I hope you say it about me.”

Feeling brave, I stick a finger in the thick cream and raise it to his mouth. He sucks it and rolls his tongue around the cream. My eyelids drop as the sensation travels to my core.

I set the plate on the coffee table and swipe a little more cream. Leaning up on my knee, I put my finger in his mouth and my other hand on his shoulder. I’m inches from his face. I lick my lips and when he nips at my hand I crush him with a kiss.

This time it isn’t sweet. It’s hot and sexy, and a low sound escapes my throat. I release my grip on the firm muscles of his arms and move my hands over to his chest. My goodness, he’s ripped. Ridges so defined, I use my fingers to trail the edges of his pectorals and bump over his abs. I fiddle with the bottom of his shirt, wanting to take it off and touch his skin. Reaching under it, I let my hands make their way back up.

He grips my shoulder blades and breaks away with a low groan. “Should I take my shirt off?”

I nod and bite my lip. He reveals what my hands already know. Light hair disappears by his nipples and reappears in a line below his navel. “Not too sweaty, nice body.” I raise my eyebrows at him. “Ummm, this is good.”

I am not normally a fan of historical novels and prefer more contemporary books but I really really enjoyed this! I was worried that I would struggle with y imagination but Nadine’s writing is such that I was drawn in immediately and had to find out the story between Caroline and Tom.

The theme of the book is very much a battle for Caroline between what she wants and what the society of her day expects of her, especially after her sister marries well. Although I haven’t read the first book in the series (An Unlikely Duchess) I didn’t feel the need to have read it to enjoy Tom and Caroline!

We start the book two years after Caroline rejects Tom and he reappears into her life and they both reignite with the same undeniable attraction.   This is a beautifully written romance and I really do think that the dual perspective here works too.

I absolutely love Tom and feel for him too but you can also see why the decision that Caroline makes has to be the right one. Family pressure and the threat of the arranged marriage to an older man makes her want to throw caution to the wind and go for it before she is dragged into the life that is expected of her.

The chemistry between Tom and Carline is without a doubt what made the book for me and I really enjoyed their story if I did get a tad frustrated at ties but ultimately I loved the ending! Id love to spill more about the story but truly believe you need to give this book a go and even if, like me, you’ve never really got on with historical romances, I think this is definitely one you need to try!!

Nadine has an amazing way of writing and her ability to make you feel part of the scenes as well as maintaining the historical perspective too really made this a refreshingly different read for me! I will now be retrospectively one clicking An Unlikely Duchess too and reading it event though I kind of know the ending!!!!

A sound drew his attention and he turned to see Caroline trying to get herself back onto Fortuna.

No doubt she was trying to storm away. But since Fortuna was far too large for Caroline to be able to reach the stirrups alone, all she had managed to achieve was to be halfway up the horse, with one foot in the stirrup and the other dangling uselessly as her arms clearly did not have the strength to continue pulling.

“Er – what exactly are you doing?” he asked politely.

“Minding my own business,” she snapped back, “you should try it.”

Ah, she was still upset.

He didn’t think he’d ever seen her in a rage before. It was most amusing.

“Let me help you”, he tried again.

With a huff, she gave up on the frankly impossible task of mounting her horse alone.

She whipped round to face him, her face red from the exertion of scaling a horse, her eyes flashing fire.

“Oh, now you want to help?” she drawled sarcastically. “Well, no thank you. You have made your feelings on helping me perfectly clear.”

Tom felt his temper rise to match her own.

“I cannot believe that you are angry with me for trying to preserve your reputation.”

“Hang my reputation”, she shouted now.

“Hang it, indeed. You forget I know you Caroline and I know that you may speak as if you do not care but I was there the night you decided that your reputation was more important to you than anything else in the world, remember?”

His outburst brought an abrupt stop to her ranting and there was a deadly silence between them both.

He had thought that his words had taken the sting out of her mood? That she would apologise and say that he was right?

He watched as she bowed her golden head and waited for her to lift it again, to see her eyes filled with contrition.

Lift her head she did, but her eyes were glinting with determination now. Not contrition.

He was immediately suspicious.

“I have told you before, I am well aware of what I did two years ago. And what it cost me”.

His heart slammed at her words. Was she saying that she regretted it? That she felt she had lost him?

When all it would take was a word from her?

Before he could speak, however, she continued.

“I am prepared to live with the choices I have made. And live with them I will. I will become everything I thought I wanted to be and I will do so with good grace, as all ladies do.”

She sounded now much more like the Caroline of old and he felt a certain relief at it. This new Caroline kept him constantly wrong-footed and it wasn’t a feeling he liked.

“However”, she continued, a hard edge to her voice now, “I am still absolutely determined to enjoy a little scandal before that happens. And if you won’t help me I will find someone who will.”

A rage such as Tom had rarely felt burst through him at her words. The thoughts of her kissing another man as she had been kissing him just moments before were enough to make him want to hit something.

“Like hell you will”, he growled.

She raised a disdainful brow.

“And who will stop me?”

She was goading him. He knew it. He knew that he should not rise to it. Knew that she was probably calling his bluff.

And yet…

What if she were true to her word? What if she meant to give another man her smiles, her laughs, her kisses?

He’d be damned to hell before he allowed that to happen.

Looking her dead in the eye, he reached out and grabbed her to him.

Her eyes widened but rather than fear, they held unbridled passion and excitement. And it was his undoing.

“Me”, he finally answered before once again crushing her lips beneath his own.

“I had held off on telling you until everything was ready but I have acquired some property in Essex, and I plan to hold a house party there” said Tom.

“Oh how wonderful! That would be perfect. When do you plan to travel there?”

“I thought perhaps family could come as early as next week, and then some friends and acquaintances could join us for a second week. I’ve met the local gentry. They seem pleasant enough, so plenty of entertainment to be had. It will give me a chance to show off my new property and, Caroline a chance to keep a low profile for a time.”

“Yes, yes that is perfect Tom. I cannot wait to see it. Is it very big? What’s it called?”

Tom smiled indulgently, feeling rather proud of Rebecca’s obvious excitement.

He took great pleasure in telling her all about his new home, Woodview Hall. A sprawling red brick manor house built in the Palladian style that was all the rage a few years ago. It had belonged to a well to do earl whose son had squandered the family money before deciding that the European way of life was more suited to his desired lifestyle.

Rebecca was enchanted.

“Oh, it sounds just like the houses Caroline and I dreamed about as little girls!” She sighed wistfully.

Tom tried not to let his reaction show. But hearing that Caroline would likely approve of the house caused him more happiness than he would have wished.

“None of my estates appeal to you then, sweetheart?” Edward asked with a raised brow.

“Everything about you appeals to me.” Rebecca answered.

Tom sighed and averted his eyes from the smouldering looks between the two. Really, they were ridiculous.

“Anyway”, he interrupted loudly, “I shall be travelling down in the next day or two and you are, of course, welcome to join me whenever it is convenient. It is really only a few hours ride so should not be too difficult for Henry.”

“It sounds perfect. Just the thing that Caroline needs.” Said Rebecca excitedly before her eyes suddenly glinted with a mischievous light. “You are inviting friends and acquaintances you say?”

“Yes.” Said Tom warily. She was up to something. She was always bloody up to something.

“Who?”

“I am not entirely sure yet.”

“Perhaps I can suggest a few guests.”

Tom looked to Edward for a clue as to what Rebecca might be concocting but he shrugged to indicate he was as in the dark as Tom.

“Who did you have in mind?”

“Oh,” began Rebecca breezily, “just a few eligible gentlemen that might rouse Caroline’s interest. She is, after all, on the lookout for a suitable husband. And if we drag her away mid-Season she will miss several opportunities. Of course, a house party where they can concentrate solely on her would be just the thing.”

Tom felt his temper flare and clenched his fists tightly to try and reign in his emotions.

“Much as I’m sure your sister would appreciate having a parade of men fawning over her for a week or two, I do not particularly relish the idea of having strangers in my house.” He said through gritted teeth.

“No, I don’t suppose you would. But surely you must know some gentlemen who would suit Caroline?”

For God’s sake. The woman didn’t let up.

“I shall consider it when sending out invitations.” He said now to shut her up.

The idea of handpicking potential suitors for Caroline was the outside of enough and he didn’t want to think about it, much less talk about it anymore.

He did not need, he thought with murderous rage, visions of another man’s arms around her soft, inviting body, another man’s lips caressing hers, another man –

“Excellent. And if you do have trouble coming up with some suggestions I shall have plenty of my own.” Rebecca said now with an iron stare.

So, his first thought of conveniently leaving all single gentlemen off his invitation list probably wouldn’t work. Dammit.

“I shan’t have any trouble.” He muttered sulkily.

“Good.”

Tom’s retort was interrupted by the door opening slowly.

There was a brief pause before anyone entered, and Tom felt the familiar prickling of his skin that told him it was Caroline.

Sure enough, seconds later she entered and damn near took his breath away.

“I want you back. I need you back. You need to fight this!” Though he is yelling over the violent sounds of electronic music, his eyes are focused on the path in front of him. I glance forward and that’s when I see, out in the distance, a row of fences growing in size with each passing second.

“Taylor stop!” I scream at the top of my lungs.

“Tell me you’ll fight goddammit! Tell me now!” I glance again, the fences are now so close I can see the detail in the wiring. I have absolutely adored this book and love love love Ryan and Liz!  This is truly a lovely love story and also a journey of self discovery for both of these characters.  The journey that they both take is funny, heartbreaking and not too angsty and you can’t help but fall for both of them!

Ryan is the HOT CEO of a worldwide chain of hotels hand has his own relationship issues and he meets Liz who is floundering through life trying to support herself and her ill Grandmother and is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Ryan and Liz meet after a misunderstanding at the airport and what follows is a truly heart-warming game of falling in love.  I cannot tell you the amount of emotions that I went through when reading this book and I have come through the other end with a serious case of the warm and fuzzies!

Ryan is a strong character and we are given hints that he is some tyrannical CEO with no heart and the initial few chapters make him to to be bit of an arse but the Ryan we learn to love soon shows his true heart but will he eventually believe that he is worthy of Liz?

Liz has a lot of issues, all of which it is possible for her to overcome, but will she let anyone in enough to help?  Is she capable of getting over her issues to be able to let go and love?

It is truly an involved tale and written in dual perspectives it real makes for you having the full picture and the conflicting minds of both Liz and Ryan make you all the more desperate for them to actually end up together.

Their story is riddled with lies and deceit but not in a bad way.  Everything Ryan does is for a good reason although I didn’t agree with his actions at times!  The ending suits the book and it is NOT a cliffhanger – it has a feel good vibe but with a promise (especially with the exceprt from the next book) of more road blocks to the ultimate HEA. I was left satisfied but also eager for what comes next too! I seriously cannot recommend this book enough and am eagerly awaiting part two!    Oh and the supporting characters are worth reading about too-Mark (Ryans brother) is pretty hot and definitely needs his own book and also Nina (Liz’s best friend) definitely needs her story too (preferably with Mark – hint hint!).  We also need to see Andrew (Nina’s brother) get his story too because you do feel for him and his unrequited love too!

This is without a doubt a full 5* review from me and it deserves more!  One click this ASAP!

Suddenly two hands grab me and yank me out of the water.

What the hell?

The shock from the unexpected movement causes me to draw a breath still in water and it gathers in my lungs. A second later my head is above the surface, and I start to cough.

“Elizabeth, what the hell?” Ryan’s voice is angry.

“Are you okay?” he asks as I fling my hair back from my face.

“Yea.” I am fine, more than fine. Ryan is holding me to him, his hands are on my bare skin.

Doesn’t he realize that his touch is lethal for me?

The water is crystal clear, and I can see right through it. Not bothering to hide it, I admire the glory of his naked torso – his lean, sleek-muscled chest, chiseled abs.

My hands are at his forearms, and I instinctively wrap my legs around Ryan’s waist. He seems shocked, but doesn’t push me away, he even hugs me a little closer to him. He looks confused, I would say even a little scared or angry. With the water dripping from his face, he is gazing intently into my eyes as if trying to find some answers there. I brush a stray strand of hair out of his face and run my hand along his cheek, feeling the stubble along his jaw line.

“Just tell me how you are,” Ryan pleads, his voice panting. I don’t know what comes over me, but I know I need to kiss him now. I may regret doing this later, but I know for sure that I will regret not doing it more. “Are you – ” I close the distance between us and press my mouth to his, not letting him finish his question.

His lips are just as I remember them – absolutely perfect.

Ryan is answering me with a deeper, more skillful kiss, persuading my lips to open for him. I do so without hesitation, and his tongue accepts the invitation as it starts sliding along mine in a beautiful rhythm.

Nothing has ever felt more right.

The taste of Ryan is even better than my favorite chocolate, and I wonder for a second if it’s addictive, too.

Ryan cups the back of my neck and draws me in even closer. And I run my hands up over his shoulders and twist his wet hair in my fingers, making him groan in my mouth. His sensual licks along my tongue make me forget everything, and I melt at the sensation of his lips moving against mine. I barely register a soft moan escaping my throat.

Ryan Price awakens every nerve, every muscle, every cell in my body. He flickers it to life and rouses an insatiable hunger inside of me. The hunger for him, for more of this.

Right in this moment, I feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before. I’m flying and falling at the same time.

In that one kiss, which was so similar and different from our first, I knew I’d never kiss anyone like this again. It would be impossible to find that perfect match anywhere else—ever.

When he pulled away, I was panting and I wondered how I’d find the strength to stand later on, but it didn’t matter.

“I can’t make it upstairs,” he said, trailing his kisses down my neck and chest while he adjusted his straining crotch. I’d never seen jeans burst at their seams, but I was beginning to believe I’d get a chance tonight.

“I don’t think I’d let you even if you tried.”

My voice trembled.

“You’re nervous,” he said.

I reached up to touch his cheek with my palm, smoothing it along his freshly shaved jaw. “No expectations. I just want you. I want us, even if it’s as clumsy as when we were young.” Although something deep in my belly told me my body was about to be blessed by this graceful man in ways I hadn’t expected.

Adrian unbuckled his pants and slid them off his hips, which wasn’t easy over that bulge. I remained on the chaise, running my tongue over my lower lip, watching the power of his muscles flex with each move. His arousal strained underneath his boxer-briefs. As he lowered himself to the chaise, I couldn’t get enough of his new body. Nearly naked, he lay at my side, admiring me, tracing his fingers up and down my belly, right around my navel. A rush of goose bumps spread from there in an outward pattern.

A soft moan of impatience escaped my mouth which he immediately soothed with a kiss. At the increasing demand of his swelling lips I opened wider, and he weaved his tongue inside me. I whimpered in response. Kissing him still seemed so unreal. Finally my hands moved and I drew them up his arms to the back of his neck, tracing my fingers along his hairline and then lower to his back. Under my palms, his shoulder blades twitched as his hand skimmed down my body. Adrian’s lower back flexed, and he groaned desire into my mouth.
